The Art of Loving You
I am a child of immigrants marred by a perpetual need to achieve. From a young age I understood hard work was synonymous with success. Self-sacrifice was merely consequence of accomplishment. And who doesn't want to be accomplished? It was an ideology that served me as a student, but as my roles expanded each demanded excellence until I was less me and more the expectation of me. I needed to be an amazing lover, a meticulous worker and the perfect mother.
I created Badewa Royal for this one reason: to teach the art of appreciation. To learn to gratify and show gratitude to that sacred, holistic sense of self lost when performing our roles. Whether we are students, lovers, workers or mothers, we all deserve a home in ourselves. Our bodies are a refuge in a world that demands constant reaction. They provide reprieve from reality.
